An advance in all-wheel steering, the Dynamic All-wheel Steering that is optional in the Audi A6, A7, and A8, is standard equipment in the S81. It is currently the top technology among Audi’s steering systems and combines dynamic steering on the front axle with rear-axle steering.

Audi has substantially enhanced the dynamic facets of the Q7. In addition to the optimized all-wheel steering that allows the rear wheels to turn as much as five degrees in the opposite direction, there is the option of electromechanical active roll stabilization. Adjustable stabilizers reduce the body movements on uneven roads when driving in a straight line.

Audi offers another groundbreaking innovation as an option: all-wheel steering. A steering system with an electric spindle drive turns the rear wheels inward by as much as five degrees depending on the situation.

Boundaries pushed: dynamic all-wheel steering
There is another world first in the suspension of the new A8: dynamic all-wheel steering. It, too, is controlled by the electronic suspension platform (ESP). The new steering system approaches the steer angle and directional stability as separate issues, once again probing the boundaries of the physically possible. At low speeds and on tight bends, the luxury sedan significantly reduces steering effort. But this is never allowed to unsettle it. The A8 is even unruffled by an abrupt lane change at high speed. The driver always feels intensive, finely differentiated feedback from the road.

Steering systems are a technical field in which Audi invests a great deal of innovative know-how. Every model comes with standard power rack-and-pinion steering; its optional or standard power assist is based on the driving speed. In all cases, the driver experiences a firm, sporty feel at the wheel and precise, finely differentiated feedback from the road.

Audi will include its high-tech dynamic steering on request in some model lines. Dynamic steering varies the steering ratio by nearly 100 percent as a function of driving speed and the setting in the Audi drive select system in which it is integrated. Transitions are continuous and practically imperceptible.
